In year 1.2, I was finally exposed to the fundamentals of interior architecture and design. Even when not stated in the assignment briefs, there is a lot Self-Directed Learning (SDL) involved for this course. It was truly rewarding to see myself grow as an independent and reliable designer.
Key Projects
Architecture Drawing
Starting with multiple hours practicing drawing straight lines on A3 paper, progressing to drawing various perspective drawings of our studio, and then advancing to creating 2D plans (floor plans, sections, elevations) and 3D visuals. Through this experience, I have become more disciplined and open to asking for help when needed.
Architecture Studies
Though tedious, I'm now more inclined to learn about the buildings around me, which could possibly inspire my next design. I also appreciate structurally green architectures more now.
Space Planning
After learning the basics of using AutoCAD, we were tasked with planning a suitable interior layout for two roommates, one of whom is wheelchair-bound. This module made me more organized as I put all my findings in my Google Drive (including the average size of a bedroom, various measurements, and the sizes of household items).
INNOVATION
This is one of Temasek Polytechnic's Fundamentals (TPFUN) modules, where we were given the opportunity to work with students from the Diploma of Gerontology to accommodate a house for the elderly. As I love to socialize with others, I find this module strikes a great balance between my interest in interior design and my passion for interacting with people. I had a lot of fun working with people from other courses, sharing our expertise.
Integrated Studio Project 1
I really enjoyed visiting the site to take note of its environmental conditions, creating profiles for my household users, developing mock-up models to better visualize my design, and revising my floor plan to enhance their experience.
